Simon and Jenkins Make It Official

Johnny Simon - Buckeye Commitment
Even though the world of college football recruiting is officially in the "dead period" (cannot host a recruit), there still has been significant news as it pertains to Ohio State. One day after Christmas, the staff received a verbal commitment from Johnny Simon of Youngstown Cardinal Mooney. Simon is one of the few early 5 Star recruits in the 2009 Scout.com database.

The question of which position Simon will play is open for debate. He played chiefly at DE early at Mooney but alternated between DE and DT this past year. At 265lbs, it's not difficult to envision this kid growing into a 295lbs defensive tackle especially considering his weight room prowess. His strength numbers are staggering: Bench: 425lbs Squat: 700lbs and he can throw up 225lbs nearly forty times already. More stats and figures in this exhaustive Buckeye Planet thread.

The other important recruiting change comes via Josh Jenkins. The wavering West Virginia commit is wavering no more. He has officially withdrawn his commitment to the Mountaineers. This isn't entirely shocking as many thought Jenkins was iffy even before Rich Rod left for that school up north. Jenkins is on record as saying Ohio State is his leader and Florida State is second. He visits the Seminoles on Jan. 11th. Many of the Buckeye recruiting gurus feel very confident about Jenkins ending up in Columbus.
