Pending approval from the Board of Trustees, The Dispatch is reporting E. Gordon Gee will be returning to The Ohio State University as the new President. He most recently served as chancellor of Vanderbilt, a position he'll hold until August 1st. Early reaction seems to be one of approval but lacking excitement.

Gee does, however, have the opportunity to reach deity status among the Ohio State students, alumni and faithful. How? A fifty thousand feet overview: Continue the mission of Holbrook in terms of strengthening admissions and increasing research funding. Then, clean up the endownment fund flap and get a competent folks to manage it. Finally, for the sports fans, relax the open container crackdown during football Saturdays, restructure tailgate parking and no matter what, don't think about disbanding the athletic department like he did at Vanderbilt.
