From the Department of the Obvious

The all-knowing media has selected THE Ohio State University as the prohibitive favorite to win the Big Ten this fall. Did you have any doubt?

The media boys (and possibly girls) only reveal their collective top three and they placed Wisconsin and Illinois as the first and second loser, respectively.

The Big Ten media did something for the first time in 12 years by selecting Beanie Wells and James Laurinaitis as the offensive and defensive players of the year. The last time this that happened? In 1996, Northwestern running back Darnell Autry and linebacker Pat Fitzgerald were selected as the preseason favorites.

Interestingly, in 1996, Orlando Pace won the Offensive Player of the Year and Shawn Spring won Defensive Player of the Year. We should plan on Northwestern players winning each this year, right?

Day two highlights hopefully include an explanation by Malcolm Jenkins of the infamous picture from the Playboy Mansion. Malcolm was scheduled to attend yesterday but had flight trouble.
