Greg Oden Contest: We Have a Winner

The Greg Oden Nickname contest is over and we have a winner. Through almost 100 nick submissions, the polling was whittled down to five finalists which were voted on for about two weeks. "Block O" led most of the time but was recently overtaken in a big way by a horde of unique visitors voting for "Odenator". I know what you're thinking. Sabotage! Do not despair, no sabotage was involved but some background is in order.

Last week, this site began to get a steady of flow of Facebook visitors. Facebook, for those that don't know, is a network of sites based around colleges, universities and even high schools. It's reasonable that we may get some linkage but I don't have a Facebook account to login to see what was bringing these newfound visitors my way. It was a mystery to me until today.

Eleven Warriors cued me in with this entry which demystified the situation. Apparently, Odenation is alive and well and even heartily endorsed by the big man himself! Harumph! Who am I to try to spawn a new nick when this beast already has one? Afterall, he's had it for almost a year and even has a "double thumbs down" hand-sign he occasionally uses when he Odenates someone. Yeah, this nickname has full conjugation and even symbology to accompany it. Damn impressive.

The Odenator wins the poll with 53% of vote. Block O was second and the others were also-rans. Nearly 1000 votes were cast. Thanks to all who contributed, most especially the originators of The Odenator. Now Greg, if you read this site - how about 30-20 dub-dub at Penn State on Wednesday?
