DeShaun Thomas to Ohio State?

Sorry, Andrew Sweat. We are thrilled you are joining the Buckeye nation on the gridiron but there's a trump card tonight that moves your commitment to the side. There are rumors and, more importantly, reports (subscription) that DeShaun Thomas has committed to Thad Matta. Thomas is a 6'8" sophomore forward who is so gifted for his age that he is already drawing comparisons to LeBron and Michael. In fact, some are saying he is ahead of LeBron when comparing similar stages of their careers.

To put this in perspective, a commitment from Thomas would be every bit on the scale of Greg Oden's pledge. That is to say, their positions and heights aren't the same but the level of talent and immediate impact on a team is comparable. Thomas was major target for Ohio State but it was thought Indiana would be very difficult to beat with IU Coach Kelvin Sampson now getting comfortable in Bloomington and much heralded recruit Eric Gordon on the way. However, once again it appears Thad Matta has shown his recruiting chops.

Do not be surprised if Indiana doesn't go away quietly. Or better put, don't be surprised if Sampson doesn't go away. Remember Eric Gordon originally committed to Illinois and it was only after Sampson drove Gordon batty with constant contact did he switch his commitment to IU.
