Breakout Players and Drunken Hookups…

…it’s all in a day’s work. Matt Hayes of the venerable Sporting News has a list of breakout players for the 2008 season. Lawrence Wilson is the lone Ohio State player, which makes plenty of sense considering the Buckeyes are, perhaps, the most known commodity in college football. We did find his notes a little odd, however: “Wilson better than Gholston?”

We are not scouts (at least that I know of. Poe, how about you?), but I never thought – for one minute – that Lawrence Wilson was better than Gholston. Gholston was a monster from the moment he arrived from Detroit Cass Tech. Sure, he broke his hand in 2005 and had to redshirt, but you could already see the massive potential. If Wilson returns with half of the fury that Gholston did, he will be a first day selection in the 2009 NFL Draft. Here is hoping he is three-quarters of Vernon.

We do not hang out with our Virginian brethren that often, but when we do it is very fulfilling. Listen, we have no idea if this is true, but we cannot say that we care – because it is funny. And, by funny we mean quite possibly true.
