Big Ten Rundown

(Note: To provide more content, things keep a changing here at BC so please welcome our newest contributor, Sam Anderson. While we all love Ohio State, there are 10 other teams that make up the conference and impact our chances at a title run. Sam will keep us abreast of their seasons and standout performers. Today is his first installment.)

Big Ten Logo
Bowling Green(1-1) at Michigan St.(2-0)
Score: 28-17 MSU

A few stats: Tyler Sheehan(BG): 295 yards passing, 1 TD; Brian Hoyer(MSU): 17-29, 250 yards, 2 TD’s; Devin Thomas(MSU): 4 receptions, 156 yards, 1 TD.
A couple words: Michigan State had 7 sacks in a competitive game as Bowling Green was coming off a big win at Minnesota in week 1... Check out the Enlightened Spartan for a decent synopsis along with a little finger pointing at the Zebras.
Game Changer: Brian Hoyer(MSU)

Oregon(2-0) at Michigan(0-2)
Score: 39-7 Oregon

A few stats: Dennis Dixon: 368 total yards; Oregon: 331 yards rushing; Michigan: 365 total yards (only 7 points)
A couple words: Mike Hart: “I guarantee we win next week”…Chad Henne left the game early and is doubtful for next week…Talk at of Les Miles going to Michigan here…Good visuals and more downtrodden rhetoric here.
Game Changer: Dennis Dixon (Oregon): 292 yards passing, 76 yards rushing, 4 total TD’s.

Notre Dame(0-2) at Penn State(2-0)
Score: 31-10 Penn State

A few stats: 110,078 in attendance; Anthony Morelli: 12-22, 131 yards, 1 touchdown; Austin Scott(PSU): 28 carries, 116 yards, 2 TD’s; Jimmy Clausen: 17-32, 144 yards, 1 int.
A couple words: Dan Connor referred to Notre Dame as a “powerhouse” after the game. Not sure if a team that hasn’t won a bowl game in over 10 years can be considered a powerhouse…110,078 people painted white and dancing to Zombie Nation’s Kernkraft 400 probably had a small effect on Jimmy Clausen… It doesn’t look like Penn State is ever going to get the performance out of Anthony Morelli they expected…Derrick Williams took a punt back 78 yards for a score.
Game Changer: PSU defense.

Indiana(2-0) at Western Michigan(0-2)
Score: 37-27 Indiana

A few stats: Kellen Lewis (Ind.): 20-40 221 yards, 3 TD’s; Tim Hiller(WMU) 28-51, 343 yards, 3 TD’s, 1 int. Indiana Defense: 5 forced turnovers.
A couple words: A great game in which Brandon West set a Western Michigan record for all purpose yards with 340 (212 via kick return)…James Hardy had two touchdown catches…Mitchell Evans had two interceptions for Indiana…Western Michigan used 3 different quarterbacks in the first half.
Game Changer: Mitchell Evans

Western Illinois(1-1) at Illinois(1-1)

A few stats: Total yards- Western Illinois: 152; Illinois: 400. Rashard Mendenhall (Ill): 23 carries, 123 yards, 1 TD.
A couple words: While Ron Zook was disappointed with mistakes, IlliniTalk is disappointed with the Big Ten Network…Juice Williams had a nine yard touchdown run in a game he wasn’t supposed to play in after getting banged up in week 1.
Game Changer: Herb Donaldson(W. Illinois): The RB needs a little love as he carried 27 times for 59 yards. A thankless task in what was a very poorly played game.

Wisconsin(2-0) at UNLV(1-1)

A few stats: P.J. Hill(Wisc.): 30 carries, 147 yards; Tyler Donovan(Wisc.): 14-26, 138 yards, 1 TD passing, 1 TD rushing.
A couple words: Tyler Donovan scored on a 29 yard run with 1:29 left to play in a game that was closer than expected… While Bret Bielema was happy to come out with a win, you have to believe that he is going to sing a different tune after watching film of how UNLV threw for 258 yards.
Game Changer: Wisconsin Offensive Line.

Syracuse(0-2) at Iowa(2-0)
Score: 35-0 Iowa

A few stats: Syracuse: 5 first downs, 24 yards rushing, 2-15 on third down conversions.
A couple words: Tony Moeki had 3 touchdown catches for Iowa against a defense that is just plain bad…The Hawkeyes led 28-0 at the half and Kirk Ferentz likes Iowa’s energy level; we will monitor that energy level when Iowa goes to Iowa State next week and then to Madison, Wisconsin the week after that.
Game Changer: Jake Christensen (Iowa): 23-32, 278 yards, 4 touchdowns, 1 interception.

Nevada(0-2) at Northwestern(2-0)
Score: 36-31 Northwestern

A few stats: C.J. Bacher (NW): 20-45, 227 yards, 1 TD passing, 1 rushing; Brandon Roberson (NW): 13 rushes, 128 yards; Nick Graziano (Nev.): 22-36, 337 yards, 1 int.
A couple words: Bacher threw a 21 yard touchdown pass to Ross Lane with 21 seconds left in the game…Nevada led 24-10 at the half after completing a 48 yard pass as time expired in the second quarter…Tyrell Sutton injured his ankle in the second quarter and played very little.
Game Changer: C.J. Bacher for leading an 80 yard touchdown drive in the final minutes.

Miami (Oh)(1-1) at Minnesota(1-1)
Score: 41-35(3OT) Minnesota

A few stats: Amir Pinnix (Minn.): 28 rushes, 126 yards, 1 TD. Adam Weber (Minn.): 26-40, 271 yards, 4 TD’s.
A couple words: A game in which both teams had exactly 577 yards of total offense ended the Gopher’s way when Pinnix scored on a two yard run…Minnesota led 28-12 with 8:35 left to play…Eric Decker had two touchdown catches from Weber…Miami was 3-17 converting on 3rd down while Minnesota was 9-19…Adam Weber looked very good for a Freshman.
Game Changer: Adam Weber (5 total touchdowns)

Eastern Illinois(1-1) at Purdue(2-0)
Score: 52-6 Purdue

A few stats: Curtis Painter (Purdue): 38-49, 348 yards, 6 TD’s. Dorien Bryant (Purdue) 12 receptions, 111 yards, 1 TD.
A couple words: Curtis Painter tied Drew Brees and Kyle Orton for a school record with 6 touchdown passes...Not a competitive game at all that was delayed at the half because of lightening... Painter is going to see defensive backfields with more speed than Eastern Illinois.
Game Changer: Curtis Painter (Purdue)
