I agree that they'll gain more in TV revenue with the 3 "mega weekends", I'm just not sure that counterbalances the losses from losing the CCG, what with the sponsors, tickets, concessions, parking, etc. The estimates of that value are in the $12-15 million-a-year range, and I just don't think that the increased television contracts will make up that difference, especially since ABC/ESPN would already get at least 4, and more often 5/6, of those 6 games every year.

I also agree in that I don't want OSU-UM to be reduced in importance, and I'm all for new ideas.
All in all, I'd love to see your idea implemented, I just don't think it'll happen. I didn't mean for my earlier comment to come across as overly negative- I've been told that sometimes that happens with my writing style. Unfortunately, I haven't come up with a way to add a team, keep The Game once a year, every year, and allow for it to still have the potential to decide the conference championship. It's certainly a tough problem.

@MikeLew: I am not sure that three "mega weekends" would not allow the Big Ten to negotiate better all around TV deals as well as bowl tie-ins, which ultimately would make up for the lack of a title game. I totally agree it is all about money, but I think the league can innovate and make more money at the same time.

The big problem with this is $$. Adding a team to the conference only really benefits the whole conference monetarily if it increases everyone's revenue, and the only way that happens is with the estimated $15 million the Big Ten gets for staging a conference championship game. If that doesn't happen, bringing in Texas isn't going to add enough money to the pool to offset the addition of another team sharing the money.

Great idea... One challenge is that Texas already has two "automatic" games with A&M and OU. With this proposed configuration, a 12 game season limits their ability to schedule the cash cow games against North Texas and Appalachian State that these programs have grown to need. It would also limit UT's ability to schedule other top BCS competition, which might limit their ability to play in the MNCG.

Also, would this raise the possibility that a team (say, Wisconsin) might not play one or two of these teams and end up winning the conference? With that possibility your tournament might result in only one of these teams getting a BCS bowl bid- currently, there is the possibility of three of them getting in (last year, PSU, tOSU, and Texas all made BCS cash).

Great ideal

This post is pointless...really. You didn't name ONE single coach that would be a possible replacement. Why don't you say, maybe Bo Pelini, a buckeye, and successful young coach at nebraska, one with a tenacious defense.

docduck - hope you got your crystal ball fixed. Pac-10 is 2-5 in bowls and the "unstoppable" Duck's offense didn't show up. Duckeye was about accurate. You guys sure you're following the right Oregon team? Better luck next year.

An undefeated PAC 10 bowl season is out now, Thanks Beavs. Way to crumble under pressure.
I think this matchup will be AWESOME. Any Duck fan who's intentions are other than 'trolling' will agree that we respect the tOSU Defense. Hopefully you condition, condition, condition over the month off to prepare for a no-huddle, zone-read, spread-option assault. Our D is undersized to you, but over-turbo charged. And Masoli runs the 'slight-of-hand' plays better than anyone save for good ole Dennis Dixon.
LaMike will not even be seen by your CB's and Safeties until he is squirrel'ing his way upfield 40 yards.
and then, just when the tOSU D conpensates, ...BAM, LaGarrette Blount for a hurdle, and a bulldoze into the endzone. It should be an awesome rose bowl to watch. But i think the straw that breaks the buckeye's back will be the depth of talent the Ducks have across the board. We are NOT underestimating you, and Nor is the conniving Chip Kelly.
Cheers Sweatervests, Here's to a good matchup!

Did you ever think that the BCS hates the Big10; and that IS the reason we have 2 teams in the BCS. Well, no, thats not entirely it...we got 2 teams because we travel well, and we will make them money...

But in all actuality, if you are a big10(11) fan and you wish to see our league restored to national prominence having two teams in the BCS does not bode well for the cause. I am not saying we can't beat Oregon, or that Iowa can't beat Ga. Tech...but with Iowa getting into the Orange Bowl...it bumps every other team up a bowl...our #3 team now plays in #2 teams bowl..in this case...Cap1 Bowl now has PSU...LSU on the other hand is in the same situation so that bowl doesn't matter...for the rest of the teams, they are all playing up one slot and in tougher bowl games than they truly deserve given our contracts with each bowl...Such was the case last year with PSU and OSU in the BCS...and also in 2007 when we played LSU in the NC and Illinois played in the Rose Bowl...

My point is..the BCS doesn't love the Big10..and in reality, they are doing the league a huge disservice by continually putting 2 teams in the BCS and bumping all of the rest of our teams into tougher bowl games...

Anyhow...go bucks 31-27 over Oregon in a Rose Bowl thriller that mirrors Jake the Snake and ASU

UC v. UF - Florida rolls 38-17

Iowa v Ga Tech - Iowa squeeks one out in a real barn burner...9-3

TCU v BSU - who knows? I don't know enough about either squad...

Alabama v Texas - I'm rooting for Texas...but I see Alabama 27-17
